This field is across from the couple photographed earlier. It is interesting what we leave behind as discarded and unwanted. Most in particular after we have “used it up.” So what now?
In whose image is the City Made? The physical form of urbanism. In the Roman world, the ritual procedures, which controlled both the identification of site and especially the plan of the town, were derived from myth and religion. An Introduction to Urban Historical Geography, Harold Carter. How do we plan for today’s eclectic society that is made up of multiple cultures and needs?
These houses are not long for Heiplaat. Perhaps 3-4 years a majority of these houses will be torn down and replaced with more modern apartments. What will happen with the people who live here now? What is the plan? Who is involved with future planning? Is there an overall design?

A very nice couple sunning themselves in one of the mini-harobors of Heijplaat. I am hoping they will contact me about their story.
These photographs are from Nico’s friend, who has been documenting the Heiplaat place for the past 35 years. I am hoping to visit his archive soon. These photographs reminded me of the French painter, Murice Utrillo.
