The rat was amazing. I photographed it the first time on a plant of wood floating in the 3 meter deep lively “petre dish” pool, while at the same time recording the under water sounds. After a couple of photographs she jumped into the water and seemed to dive well below the surface- she disappeared for at least 2 minutes. The rat reappeared on the other side of the pool, climbed up on a larger piece of rectangle wood floating on the surface next to a board with nails sticking out like railing. The next few pictures almost tell the rest of the story…..

This past weekend, I spent 3 days in the South of Holland experiencing a remarkable place and an amazing community of people dedicated to flying kites over a 3 day period sometime during the summer. Sometime after I return to Baltimore, I will post an audio podcast of the sounds from this past weekend on http://urbantells.net — probably sometime at the end of August, 2009. Most everyone was either interested in music, art, and / or flying kites in one of the most beautiful skies in the world. Everyone should fly a kite!

More information about the Maasvlakte. The second image is looking out towards the North Sea, which is the location for the Maasvlakte II, a future recovery site that may or may not happen, depending on economics. In the Maritime Musuem is a model of the city and seaport of Rotterdam that includes the projected project in relation to the rest of the harbor– it is an provocative plan. The first image is water being pumped out onto the sea, the second one that is slightly darker is sand, a form of dredging.
Half Juni is a dynamic place, where it is possible to get a good cup of coffee and where you can work behind your laptop or read a book in a pleasant environment. Because Half Juni would like to stimulate the exchange of ideas, an important part of the space is the presence of art publications and other relevant printed matter.

On the opening of Half Juni the book Language in art, chronicle of the art manifestation NewCanvas©Poetry&Art for Poetry International Festival 2004-2006, will be presented. Kamiel Verschuren will present his book at 17:30

Half Juni is an initiative from Iddo Drevijn & Martijn in’t Veld. Supported by NAC Foundation and with thanks to Kamiel Verschuren, Wandschappen and the OBR.

Half Juni
Wolphaertsbocht 51, Rotterdam Charlois
Opening hours, Thu-Sun, 13:00-17:00

URBANtells.net has also launched a new FM transmission from the Half Juni, 107.1 FM with sounds from the surrounding area.
